From Ottoman Turkish چنگانه, چنكانه (çingane ,çingene), from Persian چنگانه (čengâna), likely ultimately from Ancient Greek ἀθίγγανος (athínganos). Compare τσιγγάνος (tsingános) and αθίγγανος (athínganos).
