Etymology

From Proto-Slavic *kuropъtъka, a diminutive of Proto-Slavic *kuropъty. The modern form arose through consonant cluster simplification (*куропътъка › *курі́птка › курі́пка).

Cognate with Belarusian курапа́тка (kurapátka). Russian куропа́тка (kuropátka).
