Mongolian[edit]

Smoke coming from Mongolian yurts

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Mongolic *hutuxa, perhaps analyzable as утах (utax, to smoke, to fume) +‎ -аа(н) (-aa(n)), but East Yugur shows no final nasal.

Cognate with Daur xutaa, East Yugur htaa, Kalmyk утан (utan).

Pronunciation[edit]
