Akin to Hebrew עֲדָשָׁה (ʿăḏāšā́), Ugaritic 𐎓𐎄𐎌 (ʿadašu, lentil), Akkadian 𒂊𒁲𒋳 (edešu, bud, sprout), and Arabic عَلَس (ʕalas, emmer). From Proto-Semitic *ʕadaš-, cognate with Proto-Central Chadic *HVdas- (seed), Bacama/Bata [Term?] (ḍàsì-to).
