Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀧𑀫𑀼𑀓𑁆𑀓 (pamukka), from Sanskrit *प्रमुक्न (pramukna), ultimately from the root प्रमुच् (pramuc), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)mewk-.
