Etymology

[edit]

First attested in the Cheonggu yeongeon (靑丘永言 / 청구영언), 1728, as Early Modern Korean 곰븨님븨 (Yale: kwompuynimpuy), apparently from Middle Korean 곰ᄇᆡ (kwompoy) + 림ᄇᆡ (limpoy), but difficult to say for sure because the meaning of the two Middle Korean terms is unknown.
