Chambers gives as a preferred alternative "fumet", and says "apparently Anglo-French, from Latin "fimare" to defecate". But I have not come across this word "fimare" and it is not in my Lewis and Short. Maybe it is mediaeval. Deipnosophista (talk) 07:01, 3 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
