Inherited from Vulgar Latin root *ammixticāre, from ad- + *mixticāre, from Latin mixtus, past participle of miscere (mix). Compare Aromanian ameastic, amisticari, Italian mesticare, Dalmatian mescur; cf. also Italian mestare, Asturian amestar, Romansch maschadar, Friulian mesedâ, from a related root.
