Ultimately from Ancient Greek ἀρχαϊκός (arkhaïkós, old-fashioned), from ἀρχαῖος (arkhaîos, from the beginning, antiquated, ancient, old), from ἀρχή (arkhḗ, beginning, origin), from ἄρχω (árkhō, I am first).
