Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish دوشنمك, دوشونمك (düşünmek), from Proto-Turkic *tüĺ-ün- (to think, understand). Cognate with Uyghur چۈشەنمەك (chüshenmek, to understand), Uzbek tushunmoq (to understand), and Kazakh түсіну (tüsınu, to understand).
