From Latin florēscō, from flōreō (I bloom, flower) + -ēscō, from flōs (flower), from Proto-Italic *flōs, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰleh₃- (flower, blossom), from *bʰel- (to bloom), as if through the form flōrēscentia.
