English

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

German Indig(o) (indigo) +‎ -ane by unwinding the etymology of indium in order to avoid a conflict with the hydrocarbon already called "indane".

Noun

[edit]

indigane (uncountable)

  1. (inorganic chemistry) indium hydride, InH3

Usage notes

[edit]
  • This is the IUPAC name; as noted in the etymology section, systematic application of the name rules would yield "indane", but that name already had a historical meaning.
