From Proto-Tai *lɤkᴰ (deep). Cognate with Thai ลึก (lʉ́k), Northern Thai ᩃᩮᩥᩢ᩠ᨠ, Southern Thai หลึก, Lao ເລິກ (lœk) or ລຶກ (lưk), ᦵᦟᦲᧅ (loek), Shan လိုၵ်ႉ (lṵ̂ek), Ahom 𑜎𑜢𑜤𑜀𑜫 (lük), Nong Zhuang ndaek.
