[edit]From Old Galician-Portuguese, from Latin glāndula (“little acorn; tonsil”), or from Vulgar Latin glandinem,[1] from Latin glāns (“acorn”), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷelh₂- (“acorn”). Doublet of glande or glándula. Compare also Spanish landre.
