From mistura (mixture) +‎ -ar (forms infinitives), from Latin mīxtura, feminine participle of misceō (to mix), from Proto-Indo-European *meiǵ-, *meiḱ- (to mix). Alternatively from Old Galician-Portuguese mesturar, from a Late Latin mixturāre, from Latin mīxtura. Compare Italian misturare, archaic Spanish mesturar.
