From prenunciate (announce before, whence prenunciation) +‎ -ive, with influence from Latin praenuntiātīvus, a misreading in Pliny[1] of praenuntiōs, praenuntius (foreboding) and by analogy with praenuntiō (announce beforehand; foretell) +‎ -īvus.
