[edit]Etymology
[edit]Possibly of Japanese origin, according to Potet (2016) and the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino. Compare Bengali স্যান্ডো গেঞ্জি (sênḍō genji), Assamese English sando-ganji, Kapampangan sandu and Hindi सैंडो गंजी (saiṇḍo gañjī). Another theory says that the word is named after German vaudeville showman and bodybuilder Eugene Sandow (1867-1925) who wore a sleeveless shirt when showing off his muscles.
