Etymology[edit]
From Katharevousa μεσαίων (mesaíon) + modern ending -ωνας, from phrase μέσος (mésos, “middle”) αἰών m (aiṓn, “century”), a calque of French Moyen Âge.[1] With capital first letter, when referring to a specific era.
