Etymology

From Proto-Slavic *dьrcati, an alternative form of Proto-Slavic *dьrkati via third palatalization (*-k- > *-c- before *ь). Compare Bulgarian дързам (dǎrzam) (reflecting Proto-Slavic *dьrdzati) from Proto-Slavic *dьrgati.
