Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic съкратити (sŭkratiti). By surface analysis, со- (so-) +‎ кра́ткий (krátkij) +‎ -ить (-itʹ). Compare the Belarusian скараці́ць (skaracícʹ) and Ukrainian скороти́ти (skorotýty).
