Inherited from Classical Latin deus, from Old Latin deivos, from Proto-Italic *deiwos, from Proto-Indo-European *deywós, an o-stem derivative from *dyew- (sky, heaven). Likely pronounced /ˈdɛo/ (see דוּמֵידֵית (dumedeṯ)).
