Uncertain, but possibly from Classical Mongolian ᠰ‍ᠢ‍ᠴ‍ᠢ‍‍ᠮ (s‍i‍č‍i‍‍m, rope). Cognate with Azerbaijani sicim, Karachay-Balkar джиджим (cicim), Karakalpak şıjım, Nogai şıjım.
