Central Kurdish

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Ultimately from Proto-Iranian *pati- and Proto-Iranian *maH- (to measure), the latter from Proto-Indo-Iranian *maH-, from Proto-Indo-European *meh₁- (to measure). Cognate with Parthian 𐫛𐫅𐫖𐫀𐫅𐫗 (padmādan, to measure), Persian پیمودن (peymudan, to measure), Sogdian [script needed] (ptmʾtʾy /patmātē/, measured, frugal). Akin to Old Armenian պատմեմ (patmem, to tell, narrate), an Iranian borrowing.
