Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀆𑀠𑀢𑁆𑀢 (āḍhatta, begun, undertaken), the past participle of 𑀆𑀠𑀯𑀤𑀺 (āḍhavadi), from Sanskrit आधापयति (ādhāpayati, causes to put), from the root आधा (ādhā).
