Etymology

From Proto-Dravidian *kalanku. Cognate to Telugu కలగు (kalagu), Kannada ಕಲಂಕು (kalaṅku), Tulu ಕಲಂಕು (kalaṅku), and Malayalam കലങ്ങുക (kalaṅṅuka).
