From Proto-Karen *loŋᴮ (stone, rock) (Luangthongkum, 2019) or *loŋ¹ (idem) (Burling, 1969), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *r-lu(ŋ/k) (stone). Cognate with Pa'o Karen လုံး, S'gaw Karen လၢၢ် (luẖ).
