Proto-West Germanic -stem nouns.

These nouns are feminine, typically with the following endings:

  • in the nominative singular: -u;
  • in the genitive singular: -wā;
  • in the nominative plural: -wō.

The stem classes are named from the perspective of Proto-Germanic and may not still be visible in Proto-West Germanic inflections. In Proto-Germanic, the endings were the same as that of the ō-stems, but later sound changes caused the two classes to diverge.
