Ge- + sprechen?[edit]
Is this analyzable as ge- + sprechen, or is this at least from ge-? Anglish4699 (talk) 23:40, 15 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Anglish4699: Well, diachronically it's from MHG. As for the synchronical analysis: According to ge- it's: "2. When attached to verbal nouns, forms nouns denoting repetition or continuation. All of these nouns are neuter and have no plural." (this should be the only sense from which Gespräch could come from). So either the "no plural" part should be wrong or it can't be "Gespräch = ge- + sprechen". Is there any noun proving that the "no plural" part is wrong? -84.161.24.251 00:57, 4 September 2017 (UTC)
- Okay, I see what you're saying. Can this be from ge- + Sprache? I'm only asking since the OHG is cognate with Old English ġesprǣċ which is ġe- + sprǣċ. Anglish4699 (talk) 01:30, 4 September 2017 (UTC)
