Aster rick[edit]

Another sense[edit]

Sense 1. / 1. / 2. defines an asterisk as "Something which is of little importance or which is marginal; a footnote." The word "asterisk" seems to be used in a related but distinct sense not currently covered in this entry here, where the author writes:

Regardless of the outcome, the trial will forever be an asterisk on Mr. Trump’s presidency and could influence both the next election and American politics for years to come.

If anything, I feel that the word here implies the opposite of an absence of importance. The trial may, in the history books, well be a footnote, but it will be a profound one. 188.96.164.190 17:21, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
