Surely the origin is via the Greek Trekkein meaning to pull (as in tractor and trek and traction) rther than the germanic Zier (ornament)?? — This comment was unsigned.

There is no such Ancient Greek word (Ancient Greek would use two k's to show an nk sound), and none of the words you cite are from Greek, either: tractor and traction are from Latin trahere, while trek is from Dutch. The closest Ancient Greek word is τρέχω (trékhō) (infinitive τρέχειν (trékhein), but that doesn't seem to be the source of Latin trahō (infinitive trahere). Chuck Entz (talk) 13:24, 18 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
