- In my opinion it is an adverb. It's only called a pronoun for etymological reasons. "Selbst" and "selber" are uninflected like adverbs and they can be replaced with other synonymic adverbs, e.g. ich selbst = ich persönlich. I'm changing this now.Kolmiel (talk) 15:35, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

- This is not Wikipedia and our circumstances are not like Wikipedia's. What works for Wikipedia does not work here. Wikipedia forbids original research, while we encourage original research. Here we copy little from printed sources, and most of our words, definitions, and examples come from original thinking by educated native speakers.

- Thank you for clarifying this, Stephen. The IP's statement is, of course, contrary to the way we work here on wiktionary, but it's also impertinent seeing the degree to which the user butchered the article, deleting stuff, etc., based on nothing but their own personal opinion.
