  • (Utrecht) First attested as westbroick in 1394. Compound of Middle Dutch west (west-, western) and broec (marsh, marshland).
  • (Limburg) First attested as Brock in 1803-1820. Compound of west (west-, western) and broek (marsh, marshland). The element west was added to distinguish the settlement from Oostbroek. See also Limburgish 't Grwat-Brook.
