Inherited from Proto-Finnic *ahnëh (“greedy”), from both *ahnas (“greedy, voracious; eager”), borrowed from Proto-Indo-Iranian *(H)aćHnas, and the suffix *-ëh. This etymology is incomplete. You can help Wiktionary by elaborating on the origins of this term.
