Etymology 1[edit]
From Proto-Albanian *aiska, from Proto-Indo-European *aisk- (“bright, shining”). Cognate to Lithuanian áiškus (“clear, bright”), Old Norse eiskra (“rage before hot excitement”), Old Church Slavonic искра (iskra, “spark”).

Conservative variant of esh, from Proto-Albanian *etska, with devoicing from *edz-k-a, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁eǵʰis; cognate with Ancient Greek ἐχῖνος (ekhînos), Macedonian еж (ež), German Igel, Lithuanian ežỹs.[1]
