Etymology

From Proto-Germanic *ferhwą, *ferhwō. Cognate with Old English feorh, Old Saxon ferh, and Old High German ferah. Obsolete in modern English, German, Norwegian, Swedish and Danish. Compare the German Leib (body) and leben (to live).
