Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰh₂eyd-ro-, from *gʷʰh₂eyd- whence also Ancient Greek φαιδρός (phaidrós, bright, beaming) and perhaps gaĩsas (gleam, ray). Within Baltic, related to Latvian dzidrs, Lithuanian gaidrus.[1]
