From Proto-Albanian *ɟeθ (definite *ɟeði̯a) < *gẹð < *gadih < *gu̯azdih, from Proto-Indo-European *gwosdis. Compare Proto-Slavic *gvozdъ (“nail”), especially Czech hvozd (“forest”).[1]
