Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Javanese ꦩꦼꦂꦕꦺꦴꦤ꧀ (mercon) from suffixation of mercu (“fireball”) + -an. Mercu itself is borrowed from Tamil விரிசு (viricu).[1]
