Etymology[edit]
Probably derived as a singular form from the plural, nunți, from an earlier hypothetical *nupți, from Latin nuptiae (“wedding”), from nupta (“bride”), from nūbere (“marry”).[1] Compare Italian nozze, Aromanian numtã.
