From Middle Dutch ogenblic, from Middle Low German ōgenblik. Compare Norwegian øyeblikk, Danish øjeblik, German Augenblick, Icelandic augnablik, Swedish ögonblick, Yiddish אויגנבליק (oygnblik), and English eyeblink. Equivalent to oog (eye) +‎ -en- +‎ blik (look).
