Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish سچمك (seçmek, to choose, sort, discern, distinguish, notice, elect), from Proto-Turkic *seč- (to choose, select).[1]

Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (seç-, to choose, discern), Azerbaijani seçmək (to choose, distinguish), Turkmen seçmek (to choose).
