English[edit]

A heavily branched wolf tree

Etymology[edit]

Perhaps in allusion to the rapacious nature of wolves (a common European belief during the 19th century).

Noun[edit]

wolf tree (plural wolf trees)

  1. A large forest tree whose spreading branches prevent other trees from growing beside it.
That wolf tree looks much older than the trees around it. I'd bet this was an empty field when it was young.
